Ranked as the number one public access course on mainland Australia and fifth overall, we’re proud to stand among the nation’s finest.

And for a limited time, green fee players can now access the course seven days a week, even during prime times.

Tee times for green fee play are available daily (outside of member competition times), but availability is limited – particularly on weekends, public holidays and the period from late December to the Australia Day long weekend. We recommend groups book well in advance.

“From June (2024), the club will embark upon an extensive renovation of the clubhouse and accommodation, with the existing clubhouse expected to close for about a year. That’s bad news – for a little while – if you like staying on-site, but good news in other ways. As preferred tee-times are usually given to house guests, their absence will open more times for non­members. Green Fees

The green fees payable are:

“Barwon Heads is a delight to play. Golfers get the chance to embrace the ground game on the firm, tight surfaces and experience the joy of correctly flighting a shot through the oceanside wind. Little quirks abound, which add to the experience. Driving from the seventh tee, for instance, you fire the ball across a public road in a moment that can, quite literally, stop traffic. While not especially long, the Links will test golfers of all standards with cleverly positioned hazards, subtle slopes and greens, along with challenging tee positions. The wind ensures that the course rarely plays the same way twice in the one week.

The turf is maintained to the highest standard and in the summer a local species of couch grass dominates the fairways. In the cooler months the species of Poa annua provides an excellent fairway cover. The greens are predominantly of Poa annua and it is our practice they are prepared every morning, so a true and fast surface is virtually assured.

In Gary Lisbon’s latest book, Barwon Heads is in the company of Royal Melbourne Golf Club, Tara Iti, Royal County Down, Royal Dornoch, Troon, Golf de Morfontaine and Ardfin among others. Barwon Heads is one of the top 100 golf courses selected to appear in the book.

Gary is a renowned Melbourne-based golf course photographer who has taken more than 186,921 photos of over 685 courses in 26 countries.  

The Golf Course Guide’s rankings referred to above are weighted 40% on course design, 40% on course conditions and 20% on course aesthetics. The top five Australian public access courses were listed as:
